video others page :OOOO

Maybe later I will have a different organizational structure
≡=≡=≡

hullo!! this is my page for information about and links to my video projects that aren't essay focused. I hope you find it interesting or helpful~
Lacking a strong idea for an organizational scheme, i'll start by grouping together some of my video work that connect with each other. you can find all my videos, essay and non-essay, on my YouTube channel, legitsalt

To begin with, videos I made while in Japan (Summer 2024)

some assorted thoughts about the videos from japan:

tbh i was going off with these titles. i don't think i've yet been able to reproduce the consistent heat that was going on here. i liked how they turned out, anyways. for these types of videos, i generally like titles that add a dimension of poetic ambiguation (or a potential for such) and i think these do a great job of working towards that. failed taxonomy especially, is a great name. as things stand, i'd say it's likely i come back to it again in the future at some point.
...
fun fact: smelling salt was the only video as of the end of 2024 that had a dislike on it. it's still the case right now, but i'll try to at least vaguely future proof myself and pretend to ignore that. i think this is such a funny video to leave a dislike on. i have no idea who could have dropped it, but it cracks me up. i like to imagine that one of my host family's from japan saw the video (i sent them a link) and was like, 'what is this crap???? dislike.' i've never left a dislike on a video, so i'm endlessly fascinated by what's going on here.

Next, videos from my summer trip to visit family in Minnestoa

some assorted thoughts about the videos from minnesota:

i like these titles a fair amount too. i want to offer explanation for "four [walls]..." since the title is a specific citation i'm paraphrasing with the bracketed text. as a tribute to brat summer, i guess, i'm playing off of the lyrics from the song, "Everything is Romantic," that go, 'four generations make up a family.' my video deals with the subject of framing and other such settler technologies of enclosing and gridding. i was interested in how the picture frame makes a kind of claim of mastery over the indigenous artwork it boxes in. aside from the picture frame, i was thinking about these things in reference to the playmobil box, and especially the outlandish claims it lists on its outside. i wanted to think about households and childhood play as another kind of enclosure technology.
...
"fidelity, or" , i think this one is pretty self-explanatory. i was so thrown off by the cover of that children's book i felt like i had to take a video of it. i tried to accentuate the distortion already present in the caricatured face. i didn't read the book, but the title felt vaguely racist. but i want to believe...
...
i don't know that my kitchen prayer turned out exactly like i wanted it to, but i think the intention is still there. the motivating force was that i found three different iterations of a "my kitchen prayer" wood carving/wall art in one of the thrift stores my cousin took me to. religion, domesticity, and the midwest have a strange relationship. i've only ever witnessed this stuff vicariously. the enterprise is so big and yet the midwest is so lonely.

And then, the most recent stint, videos from my traumatic move-in to Yale

some assorted thoughts about the videos from yale move-in:

these are by far the angriest videos i've made so far. i was in so much pain and it was such a physical shock having to immunize myself to all the immense violence yale was inflicting on the community.
...
brat summer references resume with "IM SORRY...". this time, though, it's hidden away in the video description. which, speaking of, i think is the best i've cooked with regard to description text so far. the second half ot the description is an air doll reference. i have a lot to say in this video and i feel i succeeded, but i dont know that i can out and say much more than that. before moving on, though, ill say that the titular JULIE is a self-insert -- interpolating brat's julia and Red Desert's Giulianna. i don't feel comfortable with my name assigned at birth (hence why i rarely write it or if i do it's always lowercase) but i haven't settled on what name i'd like instead. for a while, i think some iteration of giulianna has been what's felt the most comfortable to me, but i haven't communicated that with really anyone yet.
...
the main thing i wanted to say about "41.383..." is that the reason i wrote the title out like that is because when spoken as 'forty one point three eight three billion dollar you ess dee,' it rhymes and i think it's fun to say. that number is yale's endowment, if not clear. i originally planned on doing a larger series of videos about the violence(s) yale inflicts on the community here. i would have definitely included the street art that shows the disparity between yale's endowment and it's community contributions if i had done that.

::about video others::

this and my video essays site will likely be my most link-y sites -- i.e., least root text-y. i would still like to include some explanatory information here, either for individual videos or what may be going on between etc. more info to come...
