I use the term "AMV" loosely here, for to refer to a video composed of existing music played against existing footage. Conventionally, the footage that accompanies the music in an AMV is, as the name suggests, anime of origin. While it could be argued that some of the footage I use fits this categorization, the bulk of it fits more neatly into categorizations of "gameplay," "trailers," "other visual promotional material," etc. I retain use of the term "AMV" as it is semiotically expedient for conveying what the project is.
Videos made while in Japan during the summer of 2024. I was there as part of a language study program which started two days after my graduation. Videos reflect on feeling voiceless, the technologies of spectatorship and tourism, and the potential pain(s) of living in a world built on top of others, among other ideas ; (first time I'm working with Patricia Taxxon's music as conduit/subject of analysis)
Videos made while visiting family in Minnesota during the summer of 2024. My visitation came after a series of missed communications and unfortunate events canceled plans I had to go on a road trip with friends. Videos reflect on religion, architecture, debris, etc. -- and how these relate to life in the rural Midwest (among other ideas) ; (first time I'm working with Joanna Newsom stuff)
Videos made during the first month or so I was living in New Haven for grad school. This coincided with when I started HRT. Videos reflect on gentrification, relations between the police and the University, and fighting off the start of what would become a debilitating burnout, among other ideas ; (first time I'm working with Black Dresses' music in my video work ; though the band's presence is less stated in "IM SORRY...")
Videos made during the first month or so from when my medical leave of absence for Spring 2025 semester was approved. A result of going for daily walks around different neighborhoods, trying to explore new places and see new things each day. Videos reflect on fractal geometries of trees, the beauty of the sky, and the dragging weight of being, among other ideas
Videos made during my leave of absence of graduate school. This coincided with when my laptop broke causing me to lose ⅓-½ of my work from over the past 5 years (which in turn coincided with my cloud storage running out of room). Videos reflect on digitally mediated memories, digital artifacting, and the soothing possibilities of loss (e.g., distortion), among other ideas ; (first time I'm working with the suite of what I've been calling "crishing music" , a reflection on the music and artists I was soaking up while playing through Minecraft: Dungeons, for example)
Video projects I abandonded (but which still bear suggestions of what I had inteded them to be)
under construction,,, come back later :^3
