Video art: AMVs
This is a FNAF-themed AMV I made for Black Dresses' album, Forever in Your Heart.
For a while now, I've always thought of the themes and images of FNAF when listening to this album. Black Dresses' music and FNAF have been my two biggest hyperfixations of late. I think both are fascinating in many ways. One motivation for making this was that I've spent more time with these properties than my friends, and thus this is an expedient means of crystallizing my thoughts into a more legible form. That being said, I realize that there is still a sizeable knowledge barrier to entry to this piece. While I think being opaque about my intentions in some regards helps maintain some of the effects I was going for, I think there can still be ways where explication can help open up the ideas I'm trying to wrangle with. I reckon there's a level of explanation between saying nothing and saying everything that gives people the tools to take apart a meal while not overtly holding their hand on how to do so. I think the viewer still ought to have autonomy in how they interact with my art, afterall. While I may edit my pieces on my computer monitor, I myself engage with them via all manner of media (my phone, mostly, if not my computer; but other media too).
While this AMV is an individual artifact, it has always existed within a continuum of art objects, each loosely flowing into the others. Prior to making the AMV (i.e., in Fall 2024), I worked through some of my thoughts related to what I would go on to explore here in a video essay about my experience(s) with FNAF. Since posting it, I've continued to meditate on these ideas and subjects. This has resulted in two more essays [(1) (2)}, and now a curated playlist of YouTube videos. The essays are easy enough to explain (they are what they say on the tin, so to speak), but I think it could be helpful to explain where the playlist is coming from a bit further. Inspired by a recent FNAF video, [thoughts were crystallized,... the over-under is, here are some of what was in the back of my head when i was working on this, in terms of the fnaf video stuff; the black dresses stuff youll have to work out for yourselves]
